My introduction to the local Autism Community was around 2003.  That early exposure left some deep impressions on me.

An Asperger's evaluation was later suggested after sensory processing issues put me in the emergency room.  I had never heard of Asperger's. Completely ignored the referral until many years later.

Committed myself to years of therapy and doctor appointments before learning what it actually meant to be autistic.

The symptoms lined up, but so-called high-functioning autism was then uncharted territory.

Did some off-the-wall therapies that proved effective but we were winging it.

Every new therapist knew a little bit more about autism before I was finally connected to someone with strong ties to T.E.A.C.C.H.  That’s when we started moving at lightspeed and all things fell into place.
